If you are dreaming of a vintage train ride in Upstate New York look no further than the Saratoga, Corinth & Hudson Railway. We went on the LaMothe Dinner Train where we boarded a vintage train for a ride through the crisp October air through the vibrant crimson and gold leaves of early fall in Saratoga Springs and the Adirondacks. The ride was spectacular. A local winery sold drinks prior to boarding that you can bring along for the ride. Your ticket assigns to you to a train car but you will definitely want to walk through to the open air car for great views and to feel the wind.

The train pulled into the LaMothe landing where we exited the train and were greeted by staff and shown to our tables underneath the large white tent. The set up outside the historic Farmhouse elevated the entire evening. Lit tiki torches flickered and led the way to our tables, which were decorated with autumn centerpieces and an iconic Saratoga water bottle for every guest. A band was playing quietly in the front while fire pits crackled with Adirondack chairs set around to chat with friends. Cornhole was set out for everyone to use and groups took turns tossing bean bags. The local winery had a bar set up to purchase drinks (alcoholic and non) that were paired to the meal and local to the area.

The meal was catered by Vested Veterans and was plated and served to you at your table. They were able to accommodate the vegetarians in our group and everyone loved the food. The owners of the train station were there and told about the history of the LaMothe landing and the trains in Saratoga Springs. The entire experience was nostalgic and the attention to detail made for a memorable fall evening.

After dinner, they called for the train departure, and it was time to make our return trip. The moon was high in the sky making for a beautiful ride, albeit a little bit chillier than the ride out if you were in the open air car watching the moon. (We loved the open air car and highly recommend that you check it out!)

Reflections: The Saratoga, Corinth & Hudson Railway is an adventure you want to plan for your visit to the Southern Adirondacks and Saratoga area. Arrive early to check in and you can see the Train Museum, get your tickets and admire the trains. We loved the LaMothe dinner train. They typically run them starting in July through early October, but they have a variety of trains that run throughout the year. Based on the attention to detail on this one, we think they will be fun year round. Pick a pumpkin, have hot cocoa with Santa, and take a scenic ride. Check their website out to add a ride to your visit.
